About Website
Arab World books was founded in Geneva in March 1998 by Amani Amin. It is considered the first Arab Cultural website.
Our mission is to highlight the ideas, the books and the men and women who created them. The website is dedicated to enhance understanding between different cultures, an area which is surprisingly deficient despite the unprecedented advances in communications. We believe that literature, and art in general, is the best conduit for such understanding in a manner that goes beyond traditional stereotypes.
We are most proud that over the years arabworldbooks.com is listed by many international organizations and educational institutes all over the world as a valuable resource for our region.
Our role as a pioneer in electronic publishing in the Arab World has been well recognized by the Alexandria Digital Culture Conference 2009, the London Bookfair 2008 and the Frankfurt Bookfair 2004.
Early in 2004, the year the Arab World was to be guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair, Peter Ripken, head of the Society for the Promotion of African, Asian and Latin American Literature - funded by the German foreign ministry was so impressed with our web site he wrote: "I am overwhelmed by the wealth of information on this site, especially for those who unfortunately do not read Arabic while being interested in Arab literature."
