A number of celebrations were held in July on the occasion of Ambassador Abdel Raouf Elreedy’s ninetieth birthday. Celebrations were hosted by Minister of Culture Inas Abdeldaem at the Cairo Opera House, by Misr Public Library at its main location in Giza, by members of the Egyptian diplomatic service at the Diplomatic Club, and Ezbet El Borg his home town, named a major street after him. In all these events the distinguished attendance reflects Egyptian society’s high esteem for Elreedy.
Ambassador Elreedy is chairman of the board of the Misr Public Library, a network of libraries around the country, and honorary chairman of the Egyptian Council on Foreign Affairs. He was a distinguished diplomat who served as Egypt’s ambassador to the United States. Last but not least, Ambassador Elreedy has been on Arab World Books’s board of trustees since 2004.
