'This Country no longer feels like mine' is a book of Poetry by Farouk Joweida. In it he examines our need for purpose and for the signs that might help us decide what to do with our lives and our desires that makes the pain of our restless souls move so fast that it is invisible. The last two poems ask 'how can we reconcile ourselves to just watching and waiting our dreams and aspirations to die before our eyes', killed by ignorant tyrants?' Haunted by our blue skies out of which nothing comes, the poems speak of intensely felt moments in our history, creating such blood-soaked ghosts of our sea voyaging young men that are both sad and troubling. Themes of absence and isolation of the migrants are heartbreakingly explored in a language so plain, that it might take us a while to notice how disturbing the poetry is. Joweida's poems, though somewhat a little repetitive (especially in biding George bush the son a farewell), are so clear that the reader could see the poet's shaping his thoughts into words. I found the Poems of outstanding beauty by a poet of the first order who knows how to make words sing.

هكذا ينقل الشاعر العظيم مشاعر فقدان الأم الحاضرة الغائبة هكذا ببساطة وصدق وقوة الكلمة والخيال

قصيدة (ارحل... وعارك في يديك) والتي كانت أصلا موجهة للرئيس الأمريكي بوش الابن في نهاية حكمه، يمكن أن يعاد فهمها اليوم لتخاطب مبارك وزملاؤه من الطغاة العرب، وهو ما قد حدث فعلا عندما نشرت على الفيسبوك أثناء الثورة فتصور الجميع أنها كتبت خصيصا لمخاطبة مبارك.

I would like to thank arabworldbooks.com for this interesting choice. This small book encapsules the anger and frustration of all Egyptians that led to the January 25 revollution. It will be interesting to see his next one.

ههذا الديوان للشاعر الكبير فاروق جويدة يكتسب قيمة خاصة بعد ثورة 25 يناير، والتي ردت بأن هذه البلاد هي بالفعل بلادي، وكأن شهداء الثورة أعادوا الكرامة للشهداء الذين غرقوا في بحثهم عن حياة أفضل في أوربا .

Farouk Gwida is a popular poet. Lyrical and uncomplicated, he has the capacity to appeal to a wide audience. He may not be the most creative of arab poets but at least he appeals to the masses.
