Nahla Hanno is the founder of the Arab Women Writers website . As a passionate reader, Nahla created this site to celebrate and recognize Arab women writers who challenge stereotypical representations of Arab women and promote awareness of the breadth of their contributions. She has donated the complete database she collected over the span of 12 years to the University of Toronto at Scarborough to convert the site into an open educational resource available to researchers, students, or the general public. In March 2023, phase one of Arab Women’s Writing was launched. It includes the biographies and works of over 600 Arab women writers.
Nahla published one book titled “من كوكب تاني” or “From a Different Planet” , a series of anecdotes from her life in Egypt, Saudi, and Canada. It is available here for free download.
Nahla was born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt. After graduating from Alexandria University's Computer Engineering Department, she pursued a career as a Systems Analyst with a multinational corporation in the oil industry where she worked for 24 years.
