Mubarak Ouassat (Wassat) was born to a family of workers in Yusufiyah,, Morocco, in 1955. A poet and translator, Ouassat's poems are published in various leading Arab magazines and journals such as the new Moroccan culture, Nizwa, Banipal magazine. He published a number of collections of poems like: On the Stairways of Deep Waters (1990), Surrounded by archipelagos and the Banner of the Air in 2001, and Butterfly of Hydrogen published by Dar Al Nahda in Beirut in 2007. The publishing house Al Manar in Paris has published his poems in French and Arabic under the title Un clair dans une fort.He belongs to the 80s generation of Moroccan poets. His poetry in particular is characterized by a sense of surrealism that is attributed to his diverse and encyclopedic culture.
He has translated, from French to Arabic, the works of many important writers such as Fernando Pessoa, Andre Breton, René Char, Leopold Sedar Senghor, Mohammed Dib, Mohammed Khair Din, and Abdul Latif Laabi and a novel by Tahar Ben Jelloun.
