Kamal Ruhayyim (1947 – 29 September 2023) was an Egyptian writer. He obtained a doctorate in law from Cairo University, before pursuing a career in law enforcement (police and Interpol) He has a PhD in law from Cairo University. He was a prolific author, penning a collection of short stories and numerous novels in Arabic, the most famous of which is a trilogy that explores identity and religion in Egypt and France and translated into English by Sara Enani. It is a rare insight into Jewish Egyptian history : Days in the Diaspora (2012), Diary of a Jewish Muslim (2014), and Menorahs and Minarets (2017). He had a career in the Egyptian police force and Interpol and has lived in both Cairo and Paris
He received The Story Club Award (four times, for his short stories), the State Encouragement Award in Literature in 2005, the Writers Union Award for the Novel in 2021, then the State Appreciation Award in Literature in 2022 for his works.
