Egypt

Hamdy el-Gazzar is a  novelist and short story writer from Egypt. Born on October 1, 1970 in Giza, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Cairo University in 1992.
Among his works are : "Black Magic", "Private Pleasures", "The WOMEN" and "The Book of Four Lines”. He won the 2006 Sawiris Foundation Prize for Literature, the 39 Beirut Prize in 2010, and the Best Egyptian Novel Award, Cairo International Book Fair 2015. Some of his works have been translated into English, Turkish, French, Georgian and Czech.
    Fellow of the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, USA, 2007, member of the Egyptian Writers Union and member of the Higher Advisory Board of the Cairo Literary Festival.
                                               
His writings
  His first novel, "Black Magic", was published in five editions: by Merit Publishing House, 1st edition, in 2005, the second in 2007 and two editions by "Al-Dar" House in 2008 and 2010. It was published in a fifth edition by Battana House in 2017
  The novel "Black Magic" won the 2006 Sawiris Foundation Prize for Egyptian Literature.
"Black Magic" published in English with the translation of Humphrey Davis  by American University in Cairo Press, Cairo ,New York 2007, and the second edition of it was issued in 2013.
- "Black Magic" was published in Turkish by Kerhos Book House in Ankara, Turkey 2013.
His second novel " Ladhdhat Sirriya" was published by Dar Al-Dar in 2008

He was selected in the Beirut 39 project to honor the best Arab writers under the age of forty, 2009-2010, the British Hay Festival Foundation

- Wrote a bi-monthly article in the American Sampsonia Way magazine for two years, 2013-2014.
Some of his texts have been translated into Czech and Malay and some of his works have been published in international journals in Europe and America, such as Banipal in London, Meet in Paris and Triquarterly - University of Chicago.
He participated in international festivals and literary events in Egypt, Algeria, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, France, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Turkey and America.
He gave readings and lectures to several international universities, including Charles of Prague, Point Park, Georgetown, Northwestern in America and others.
- His works have been reviewed by major critics in Arabic, English and in French and a number of his works were both studied and included in university dissertations in Egyptian, American and European universities.
He has been working for the Nile Cultural Channel on Egyptian TV since 1998 until today, where he wrote and prepared dozens of documentaries and talk shows and supervised the channel’s research center.
