Atef Abu Seif was born in Jabaliya refugee camp in the Gaza Strip in 1973. He attended school in Gaza. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Birzeit and a masters' degree from Bradford and he received his Ph.D from Italy. He is the author of four novels. He also published a collection of short stories entitled Everything is Normal. He wrote two plays for the theatre: "Mr. Perfect" and "Something is going on", performed by Fikra theatre group in Gaza. He is the editor-in-chief of Syasat Journal published in Palestine by the Institute of Public Policy. He teaches at Gaza's universities, and is the author of Civil Society and the State: A Theoretical Perspective with Particular Reference to Palestine, published in Amman in 2005. He is a regular contributor to several Palestinian and other Arabic language newspapers, journals and literary supplements. His work appeared in Banipal Issues 15 & 16. Abu Saif lives in Gaza City.
