Amani Amin was born in Cairo. Since 1986 she has accompanied her husband, an Egyptian diplomat to different parts of the world. They have lived in Paris, France, Washington DC, Harare- ,Zimbabwe, Geneva , Switzerland , Canberra, Australia and Beirut, Lebanon.
Dr. Amin is a dentist by profession. She has passed a number of professional accreditation tests including the American Dental Board. For many years, she has practiced both general dentistry and endodontics.
In addition to her scientific and medical background, she has always been interested in literary and cultural issues. Her articles, ranging from book and movie reviews to explorations of the internet and the future of Egyptian culture have appeared in major Egyptian newspapers and literary magazines. She has also translated several literary works from Arabic into English and vice versa.
For the past twenty five years, she has devoted herself to enhance understanding between different cultures. To this end, in 1998, she founded arabworldbooks.com, an online cultural club dedicated to the promotion of Egyptian and Arab writing. This website is non-profit and entirely staffed by volunteers.
