Barouch is a graduate of the British Boys School of Alexandria 1948.
He has both a  M.Sc. 1957 and Ph.D. 1962 from the Hebrew University.
After teaching for one year in Havana, he moved to France to join the CNRS (a state-run research institution) where he did some work in cosmic ray propagation.
He later moved to Washington to the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center for two years where he accomplished seven papers.
When he went back to France, he changed fields and tried to do some work in meteorology, then in Cognitive Psychology.
Due to lack of funding in the latter field, he returned to Space Science, where he got involved in a Franco-Soviet satellite study of galactic gamma rays. His team beat the Americans to the punch by launching six months before GRO (the US gamma-ray observatory in space) - but unfortunately the instrument malfunctioned and there was no data received.
Then, at the age of 65, he retired.
As he puts it himself, he has been since then fooling around with philosophy and poetry.
We are indeed thankful to that new dedication since it brought us this valuable presentation.
