Obviously the students enjoyed treating their inspired friend like a pharaoh. But this scene takes us back to the Bohemian art scene of the early twentieth century. Good People as fluent as a sheet of music, singing the drama of the twentieth-century in laudable chants of freedom. Back to Top title: Women of the Early Morning name: Ali Tal Email: jordonurdon@yahoo.com comments: I wish to say that ‘Women of the Early Morning’ (a book of Egyptian colloquial poetry by Abdo el-Masry) is exhilarating poetry full of spine-tingling romance and hope, but I can not. These stanzas are of contemporary national disillusionment and therefore seethe with bleakness and melancholia. In places the bard drew superlative and passionate metaphors that raised the action with smart and daring heroines, smouldering with pure sizzle. It seems to me that Abdo el-Masry wittingly managed to capture the shocking crimes of the Egyptian modern times in a rash if unsolved incidents. In that the poet is convincing and copes will with the sinister scenario of the passage of Time leading us all to a sad and repulsive end. title: نسوان الصبح بدري name: د. فاطمة فوزي Email: attaff03@hotmail.com comments: الديوان صغير ، ولكنه مدهش في بعض تعبيراته ، من دلك " أفتح الشنطة الملانة شقاوة .. سندوتش الجبنة جنبالحلاوة .. With quick sensitive strokes the poet describes an entire city, a whole culture. One line says: boys, girls, secrets. Back to Top title: Islam and Freedom of Thought name: Ali Tal Email: jordonurdon@yahoo.com comments: Islam and Freedom of Thought is a fantastic and scholarly book by the Islamist thinker Jamal el-Banna. His erudition and sheer breadth and scope of knowledge of the Qur‘an are truly astonishing. This remarkable piece of work is inherently interesting and topical that, from the first page, it reeks with the flavour and logic of the ‘Muslim Brotherhood’. Perhaps our acclaimed author did not intend to bring to mind his calm but extraordinary late (hanged by Nasser) older brother Hsin. Hsin el-Banna founded the Muslim Brotherhood in 1928 as a small social club in his village only to become one of the most crucial figures in the history of Egypt and indeed the Muslim world. The elder el-Banna sought the formation of an ‘Islamic System’ with a large dose of European socialism that would gradually reform civic, social, family, and educational organizations, which he believed had been torn apart by the Immoral Western Colonialism aided by a long list of quisling Muslim leaders. In many Arab countries the mild Muslim Brotherhood are the opposition and are unlikely to relinquish this role until they decides if they want to rule. We must not confuse Hsin El-Banna’s Muslim Brotherhood with Muhammad ibn Abd-al-Whab (1703-1792) conservative ‘Muslim Brotherhood’ that flourishes primarily in Arabia. The revisionist Muhammad Ibn Abd-al-Whab advocated bringing Islam back to its roots by removing what he considered innovations, decreeing that those who practice them are Kafir. The puritanical Ibn Abd-al-Whab ordered his followers to find those modernists and fight them to death or back to pre-third century (hijrah) Islam. Here is the prevailing paradox that haunts the West, al-Qaeda is a fusion of both ‘Muslim Brotherhoods’. Jamal el-Banna is clearly a thinker ahead of his time, making his own choices, flaunting convention, and taking control of his own destiny. Indeed, without the brothers El-Banna the course of Egypt’s modern history would be different. The well written and obviously well researched ‘Islam and Freedom of Thought’ tries to accomplish a seemingly impossible task, proving that freedom of worship and freedom of thought are proven components of Islam, though neither the Qur’an nor the Hadith mentioned the word ‘freedom’. Notwithstanding Jamal El-Banna’s mammoth task of trying to prove that apostasy (sometimes confused with treachery) is a free choice and has no punishment in Islam he fails to convenience. The book is meticulous and scholarly researched and has unearthed fascinating details, but is not the fact from the moment an individual believes in a faith he losses his freedom; that is to say religion and freedom are incompatible by definition. The mere fact that it is instituted that a man is a step above a woman, negates freedom of choice for the subordinate female. In our masculine civilization woman is always subjugated by the superior social position accorded to man. Just out of interest, did Abd al-Latif el-Banna, the late Arab singer who was famous as a female impersonator in the 20s and 30s of the twentieth century, belong to the same talented el-Banna family? title: الاسلام وحرية الفكر name: د.فاطمة فوزي Email: attaff03@hotmail.com comments: الكتاب جيد في تناوله لحرية الاعتقاد من منطلق " لست عليهم بمسيطر " ؛ وذلك باعتبار أنت الحرية هي تنفيذ إرادة الفعل دون قهر خارجي أو داخلي ، ولكن الكتاب - برغم ذلك ـ يثير العديد من التساؤلات ؛ فهل الاعتقاد هو كل الفكر ؟ ربما تكون فكرة الألوهية هي أهم فكرة تقود خطى الإنسان ، ولكننا نحتاج لأن نعرف بدقة كل المجالات التي ينطبق عليها مصطلح فكر !حتى نقرر مع الكاتب مدى الحرية الممنوحة لها في القرآن والسنة . وهل ما فعله أبو بكر رضي الله عنه في قتال المرتدين يخالف صريح القرآن وينطوي على بعد سياسي أكثر منه ديني .. نحتاج لمزيد من التعمق والعديد من وجهات النظر الهادئة ؛ لنقرر في ضوء سجال الأفكار ما نختار ! ومن منطلق التساؤلات السابقة وغيرها يعد الكتاب جيداً ؛ لأن الكتاب الذي يتناول ثوابت دينية ويعيد النظر فيها بما يخلخل قناعات القاري ، ويجعل القاري يلهث وراء علامات استفهام .. هو كتاب جيد حيث يغري بمزيد من المعرفة والسعي لاكتسابها title: الاسلام وحرية الفكر name: بنت النيل Email: comments: أشكر المنتدى على هذا الاختيار الجرئ ومع أنني لا أتفق مع الاستاذ جمال البنا في كل ما ذهب اليه وشطحاته مثل جواز التدخين في رمضان، إلا أن هذا الكتاب بالذات جيد جدا ويؤسس لفكر إسلامي متحضر، وكلما أشاهد سرعة انتشار النقاب في الشارع المصري أشعر أننا نعود الى الوراء بدلا من أن نتقدم ولذلك أشكر للأستاذ جمال أنه يبرئ الدين الاسلامي من هذه الافكار الرجعية. title: الاسلام وحرية الفكر name: محمد عابد Email: mohammad_abed@maktoob.com comments: صدمت كثيرا من اللهجة التي يستخدمها بعض الشيوخ في انتقاد جمال البنا، فإذا كانت البذاءة اللفظية غير مقبولة من أي مسلم فإنها من باب أولى غير مقبولة من رجال الدين. title: Islam and freedom of thought name: Hamid Email: hamid@gmail.com comments: The book of Mr. J. The results were and are disastrous on 1.5 billion persons or 25% of the world population. Indeed, this disastrous situation will be exponentially increased in the future as long as governments of Islamic states are closings eyes for their own existence. As far as the book is concerned, it is a good historical research and is of academic interest only. The voice of Mr. Jamal el Banna is difficult to be heard in societies with religion hysteria. I do not understand what does it mean Islamic secularism (eg. page 165). Secularism is the complete isolation of the state from hysteric religions as it happens in all civilized and developed world and there is no other definitions. I do not agree with the author statements on the influence of secularism application on western societies (p 174). The author mentioned that the beginning of development was depending of misusing east wealth. Without the west all Islamic countries should be very similar to Afghanistan, Yemen. Without the west no rich oil countries. Without the west even the author would not be able to write down his article. So let us be more realistic and rational in assessing the west. Japan, China, India are doing very well without these statements. Throughout reading the book I didnot find a clear opinion of the author if any born human being is free to select and/or change his or her religion, including Buddhism, Hinduism or not at all. This is the real freedom of mind and thinking without mental terror. Otherwise I appreciate the trial of the author and wish more freedom in writing as in the west without the knife of shariaa and similar terms. Although this has become a common theme in world literature, it is still a rarity in the Arab library. She simplifies her language and sentences to the maximum reminding me at times of Hemingway. Also her subtitles add an element of pop culture. However, she does not pull it off convincingly. The narrative wavers between science fiction and slap stick comedy. Also one wonders, if the protagonist Farag is invisible and his voice cannot be heard by anyone except Farha, then how can he consume food and drink in public, eg. one would expect that the food would be seen by others around him as floating in mid air as it enters his digestive system. title: السماء لا تمطر أحبة name: Email: comments: الرواية جيدة ومسلية وظريفة لكن لا تخلو من العمق والنظرة المتأنية على التطور الذي حدث في مجتمعنا خلال العقود الأخيرة. title: It does not rain lovers name: Ali Tal Email: jordonurdon@yahoo.com comments: ‘It Never Rains Lovers’ is a novel by Ibtihal Salem in which she tries to recount the intertwining fates of characters of miserable human and even more miserable Jinn. Although the author does succeed in bringing to life the sad state of Egypt current theocratic state and variously exposes the bureaucracy that supports it, she fails to make the reader get involved in this really important narrative that effects the daily lives of millions. Salem does not notice (or perhaps she does not realise) the fact that a failed Egyptian state drags behind all other Arab states. The book amply explores the excesses of the Revolution that led to the emergence of the mega-metropolis by the explosion of immigration into Cairo, a city that had nothing to prepare it to this quagmire. How much greater a work ‘It does not rain Lovers’ would have been had the author managed to tie up all the strands which she weaved into some coherent magical work of fiction. Salem’s engrossing tale showcases her ability to combine impeccable social observational research and storytelling flair. I can only feel saddened by yet another missed opportunity to mix the subtleties of Arabic tradition of ‘One thousand and one nights’ brilliant mix of romance, war, family drama, personal triumphs, magic, and the interaction between human and jinn. In the narrative we were reminded many times that Salema brought with her, her father’s magic stick and her belt of jewels then she dies in Farah’s house. Borne perhaps at the peak of Muslim Civilisation, the eloquent bard wrote openly about the twisting psychology of sex and its interactions with the subconscious. Although, he was derogatory called not just a ladies’ man but effeminate youths’ lover he proved to be an acute observer and a master of Arabic (probably not his mother tongue), loading many everyday words with highly charged emotions and depth of meaning which made his work so compellingly easy to read and understand for centuries. Often writing precariously even scandalously, he busied his overwhelming intelligence with the facts of any particular situation then wrote about it poignantly and with great elegance. Abu Nawwas grew up with no real advantages beyond his intelligence and commenctive ability that he was quickly noted as an excellent scholar and a superb poet, not infrequently creating life-altering favours. Love him or hate him as you may will, this charismatic man had fallen in love with many maidens but perhaps his true sexuality was leaning towards homosexuality. In spite of his controversial lifestyle, Abu Nawwas’s poetry endured the most brutal of political pressures. This book should add to the normal readers knowledge, an interesting part of history and art because of the book’s rich information and the easy handling of the events. I hope that the readers of the book should not misunderstand the European way of life as it is not only sex that is the main contributor to great productivity or vice versa, but rather hard work (though sex if any is an important component) is the main player. Indeed, the muses are available since the early history till recent time without mentioning specific names because we can’t count them. The book could be better printed and published since it is more or less loose leafs and is not in a durable beautiful format as similar books published elsewhere. I have read quite a few novels that have dealt with these issues in different ways but to my knowledge this is the first one that humanizes a member of the intelligence service – the feared mokhabarat . title: غرفة العناية المركزة name: د. فاطمة فوزي Email: attaff03@hotmail.com comments: العنوان يوحي بأن الرواية تدور احداثها في نقاط التماس بين الطبيب والمريض في لحظات الألم ، ولكن المضمون يخالف هذا التوقع ؛ بل إنه لا يوجد في المضمون ما يشير إلى العنوان بشكل مباشر؛ وهناك تأويل محتمل لمضمون العمل يوحي بأن مصرالسبعينات والثمانينات بعللها الاجتماعية من ارهاب وفتنة طائفية وفساد تحتاج لدخول العناية المركزة ! والرواية تدور احداثها في ذهن الراوي في شكل تداعيات حرة أثناء احتجازه وسط انقاض مبنى السفارة المصرية في السودان ؛ وتدور حول القائم بالتفجير والأشخاص تحت الأنقاض وعلاقاتهم ببعضهم البعض ، ويحرص الكاتب بين الحين والحين على تنبيه القاريء لأن الأنقاض لم تزل محيطة بالراوي ، وأن الظلام قائم وصوت عربات الأنقاذ لا يصل إليه وأنه مر كذا من الوقت ؛ وذلك حتى نهاية العمل الذي لم يصل فيه الأنقاذ للمحجتجزين تحت الأنقاض! الرواية مكتوبة بطريقة القطع المتناثرة التي تحتاج تجميع في ذهن القاريء لتكتمل الصورة ( طريقة البازل ) وذلك نتيجة للحدث الرئيس وانحصار المكان ، وبطء إيقاع الزمان . مثال ذلك : حدث حمل " داليا الشناوي " الذي تراه هي ذنباً لم يغفر لها لأنه تم خارج نطاق الزواج ، ولأنها انهته بالإجهاض ، ويراه الطرف الآخر _الأب _ نشأت غالب " يراه حقه في الأبوة ، ولذا يراها قاتلة ، ويناديهاعلى مدىالعمل بـ " داليا القاتلة " .. نداء من حرقة الرغبة في هذا الجنين ، أما الخصوم فيرون في هذا الحدث ثغرة في ما ضيها تدان بها ، وتقايض عليها كي تخضع لهم . والأحداث على هذا النحو الموزع تشي بأن الحقيقة لا يمتلكها طرف واحد ، كما أن الحقيقة لها أوجه متعددة ، وأن على القاريء دور في تجميع الجزئيات لتكتمل له صورة الحقيقة . وبذلك فالرواية لاتمنح متعتها إلا لمن اكمل تجميع جزئياتها وتركيبها بشكل صحيح ؛ عندها يستشعر متعة إتمام العمل ! واسلوب كتابة الرواية بطريقة الأحداث المتفرقة تنتمي للكتابة التفكيكية التي يعمد الكاتب فيها إلى توزيع اجزاء من الواقعة لدى عدد من الأفراد ؛ ليعطي للقاريء حرية اكتشاف المعنى بالنص والتجول الحر دون شروط مسبقة .. والتفكيكية في احد ترجماتها تشير إلى أن معنى النص منتشر فيه كبذور تنتشر في كل مكان ، وبالتالي يصعب الامساك بالمعنى . والتفكيكية تجعل النص في كل مرحلة من مراحله قبل الاكتمال غير ذي معنى ، وفي اسوأ حال ، وعديم الجدوى . ويحتاج النص من هذا النوع لقاريء يصبرعلى اتمام العمل ، ويتابع بذهن نشط يربط الإحداث دون أن تفلت منه الخيوط . title: غرفة العناية المركزة name: أسامة الخضراوي Email: comments: آخر التقاليع الأدبية في مصر استخدام العجز الجنسي كرمز لحالة الضعف والهوان الذي يعيشها الوطن لكن الموضوع بعدما تكرر مرارا أصبح سخيفا كما أن التشبيه بعيد تماما عن الواقع فكلما تضاعف اسرائيل من مذابحها ضد الفلسطينيين يزداد معدل الانجاب لديهم ، كما أن انفجار السكان في مصر يكذب الأدباء الذين يصفون هذا الشعب بأن لديه عجز جنسي . title: غرفة العناية المركزة name: Khaled Mohamed Email: khaledmoody@gmail.com comments: الأدب العربي زاخر بالروايات السياسية لكن هذه الرواية نموذج جديد للرواية السياسية، فالأديب العربي بصفة عامة موقفه متعارض مع أنظمة الحكم وروايته تتضمن في المعتاد نقدا لحكومته سواء كان ذلك بشكل سافر أو مستتر، أما الأستاذ عز الدين شكري وهو دبلوماسي مصري فيتناول الموضوعات السياسية من منظور أقرب الى منظور الحكومات أو بالأحرى من منظور المحترفين الذين يخدمون الحكومات، وهو منظور أقل رومانسية من وأكثر إلماما بالتفاصيل يعد إضافة مهمة للمكتبة العربية بغض النظر عن مدى اتفاقنا أو اختلافنا معه. title: غرفة العناية المركزة name: Email: comments: رواية جيدة وإن كنت أنصح المؤلف بالتدقيق في النحو مستقبلا |
