As all young children have been encouraged to read Anne Frank's story, they should similarly be encouraged to read Laird's book which depicts a Palestinian child's life under occupation and oppression.

Dear Friends,

I want to bring to your attention an important emergent children's book; A Little Piece of Ground by Elizabeth Laird. This book could serve as an essential tool for teachers in bringing the current situation in Palestine to their classrooms.

As a classroom teacher for several years I can attest to the importance of books that bring a human face to difficult situations. Historical fiction, diaries and personal testimony are all very important tools in providing a dynamic and memorable educational experience.

This book has come under attack and political pressure is being brought on the distributors to shred all copies of the book before distribution but orders are being taken. Please consider buying the book and supporting the publisher and the author.

The book is available in Canada and England. (Links to order the book, provided.)

Everyone's Children, a program of The Writing Empowerment Project will be accepting donations of the book to be provided free to local classrooms. Each donor will have the option of placing a dedication on a book plate inside the book cover. Books can be shipped to: Everyone's Children, The Writing Empowerment Project P.O. Box 1664 Baldwin Park. CA 91706.

Also, consider placing a review of the book on Amazon UK's web page after you have read it.

From the poster to the book:

Macmillan Children's Books is to publish at great speed a hugely topical novel by award winning author Elizabeth Laird about the Palestinian/Israeli conflict.
Written in collaboration with Palestinian author Sonia Nimr, A Little Piece of Ground tells the story of Karim, an ordinary twelve-year old boy, living in Ramallah under the occupation of Israeli troops.
Editor, Marion Lloyd says:"This is an exceptionally exciting and important book, which will give any child who is curious and confused about what they hear and see on TV an insight into a conflict that affects all our lives."
" A controversial and newsworthy story from the award-winning author of Kiss the Dust, Jake's Tower, and The Garbage King.
