Gaber, Asfour

Chairman of the National Center for Translation.Since 1992 he has served as Secretary General of the Egyptian High Council of Culture and is a member of the National Council for Women. He is one of the most influential authors and critics in Egypt and has published “Countering Fanaticism”, “Times of the Novel” and “In Defense of the Enlightenment”, among others.

Marilyn, Booth

Associate professor at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in the Program in Comparative and World Literature. Author most recently of May Her Likes Be Multiplied: Biography and Gender Politics in Egypt, she has also translated fiction and autobiography from Egypt and Lebanon by Hoda Barakat, Somaya Ramadan, Ibtihal Salem, Nawal al-Sa'dawi, Sahar Tawfiq, and Latifa al-Zayyat.

Professor Frances, Boyle

Francis A. Boyle is a leading American professor, practitioner and advocate of international law. He holds a Doctor of Law, Magna Cum Laude, and a Ph.D. in Political Science, both from Harvard.

Among his many achievements, he drafted the Biological Weapons Anti-Terrorism Act of 1989; served on the Board of Directors of Amnesty International (1988-1992); represented Bosnia-Herzegovina at the World Court; was Legal Advisor on the Palestinian Declaration of Independence of 1988 and Palestinian Peace Initiative, as well as Legal Advisor to the Palestinian Delegation to the Middle East Peace Negotiations.

Gamal, el-Ghitani

Novelist, short story writer and journalist , he is one of Egypt's and the Arab world's most accomplished literary figures. El-Ghitani is editor-in-chief of the weekly Akhbar Al-Adab, Egypt's leading literary publication.

Abdelraouf, el-Reedy

Former Egyptian Ambassador to the United States of America, El-Reedy is currently chairman of Board of Mubarak Public Library in Cairo. He is co-founder and member of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Council of Foreign Affairs and a member of L'Institut d'Egypte (In existence since 1798).

Bahaa, Taher

One of the finest contemporary Arab novelists. Taher published his first short story in 1964. After living in Switzerland in the 1980s and 90s, he has recently returned to Egypt and received much literary acclaim. He received the State Award of Merit in Literature, Egypt's highest honor for writing, in 1998 and the Italian Giuseppe Acerbi prize for his novel Aunt Safiyya and the Monastery in 2000.
